If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.
Assembling by the River Lea (bring some bread to feed the ducks!), we leave the characterful village by turning left at the L'Olivo Restaurant, previously ”The Nelson” pub.  On a short stretch of the Ayot Green Way we cross the former railway line and go up by the wood to Codicote Road.  Passing lovely mixed farm and woodland, the route picks-up The Great North Way (NCN12) on quiet lanes through or over the ford with its AA depth gauge.  Look out for the statue of the Virgin Mary, but if you miss it, you should see her on the way back.  Down over the A1(M), we delve into our destinantion of Knebworth and travel along London(Great North)Road.  We return via Old Kneworth, above ‘The House’, past Robin Hood & Little John, deer, buzzards and maybe a red kite!
