Facilities

Cycling facilities

Through utilising the funding available through the ‘Choose How You Move – Smarter Travel for Business project’ work is on-going on improving facilities for cyclists in the urban areas of Loughborough and Coalville.

Leisure routes and parks

Across the county there are some lovely parks and leisure facilities with traffic-free routes suitable for the whole family.

  • Rutland Water: a circular 25 mile route around the reservoir. Cycle hire available. Mainly off-road trails, ideal for families.
  • Bradgate Park: an historic park ideal for families, with largely flat terrain through the centre of the park.
  • Watermead County Park: beauty spot close to city centre with secluded spots, lake and wooded paths.

The National Forest

The National Forest has some great trails for all the family and at Conkers there is a circular route with spectacular views and many different attractions along the way. The National Forest was originally a 60-hectare open-cast coal site which has been transformed with extensive tree planting and the creation of lakes, interlinked with a series of paths which forms part of the National Forest.

Support

Cycling support

There are a range of great cycling initiatives in Leicestershire aimed at helping as many people as possible get the most out of cycling in the area.

Leicestershire’s ‘Choose How You Move’ campaign offers a wide range of activities to encourage you to get out cycling in Leicestershire. The campaign has recently introduced a new schools initiative to encourage local schools to promote cycling, which includes a scheme to assist with secure cycle parking. Each school must have a travel plan and apply each year to be put forward for the grant awarded by the campaign which aims to helps people get fit, save money, have fun and help the environment - by leaving their cars at home.

Loughborough and Coalville

Through the ‘Choose How You Move - Smarter Travel for Business project’ extra funding has been secured by Leicestershire County Council to promote sustainable transport and boost the local economy in Loughborough and Coalville. The funding is helping to revitalise and promote great existing and new cycling routes in the area.

The ‘Fit for Business Challenge’ is the element of the ‘Smarter Travel for Business Project’ promoting greater use of the cycle route network, both to workplaces and the community, encouraging everyone to get out on their bikes and have fun discovering new cycling routes.

For more information on the ‘Smarter Travel for Business’ project, ‘Fit for Business Challenge’ and ‘Choose How You Move’ campaign contact Matthew Richardson or call 07753 309 559.
