Sky Ride Local in York

Join us on some amazing rides, created in association with our friends at the National Trust. Make the most of some beautiful countryside, and great facilities for cyclists.
You don’t have to be the next Bradley Wiggins, but you’ll need to know your way around a bike and be fairly fit to take part in our Challenging rides. If you’re comfortable riding with other people and fancy a fresh challenge, these rides are perfect for you. They start at around twenty miles long, and are paced at between 11 and 12 miles an hour.
Come and join us on this beautiful 24 mile mostly traffic free, flat terrain route. Starting at Goddards, the former family home of Noel Terry (of chocolate fame) we head past York Racecourse before heading towards the futuristic design of the Millennium Bridge and York's largest green space, Rowntree Park.
After crossing the River Ouse we soon leave the busy city behind and join a flat, peaceful cycle path that winds past Bootham (within a stone's throw of the Minster), towards the open countryside of Clifton Ings.
The path leads through some woodland, continues through the pretty village of Overton and onto quiet country lanes which take us all the way to Beningbrough Hall, Gallery and Gardens. Home to a significant number of portraits from the National Portrait Gallery this gorgeous 18th Century Georgian Country Manor has some spectacular gardens to enjoy, and a well-deserved tea and cake break before heading leisurely back.
An amazing ride not to be missed!

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • David Kirk I have cycled since school and really never stoped. I don't race any more but may start again in the future if I get a little more weight off. Possibly some small TTs. I ride each Sat with our local club and commute to work. The best thing about cycling is the company. I have never met someone in a cycling club I couldn't get on with and didn't like.
  • Adam Craske Hi,

I am a Primary PE teacher from York working throughout North Yorkshire.

I enjoy challenging long rides on my bike and short gentle rides by the river with my son and daughter.
