Sky Ride Local in Bexley

You don’t have to be the next Bradley Wiggins, but you’ll need to know your way around a bike and be fairly fit to take part in our Challenging rides. If you’re comfortable riding with other people and fancy a fresh challenge, these rides are perfect for you. They start at around twenty miles long, and are paced at between 11 and 12 miles an hour.

The 22 mile Kent Explorer leads you out of Bexley following the route of the River Cray to the south as far as St Mary Cray. It then arcs round to the east to take in some beautiful Kent countryside, passing through both farmland and woodland, before joining the Darent Valley heading North back to Bexley. Full of idyllic villages, lavender fields and castle ruins, this hilly route is definitely picturesque!

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Steve Jones I'm looking forward to my third year has a SkyRide leader. It's great to get people out on their bikes in a safe environment. Sky Rides are for all the family, so why not join us sometime soon.

    Enjoy your ride!
  • Bob Christopher Hi, my name is Bob Christopher and I am a first aid trained Sky Ride leader. I've been cycling since I was five years old, and ride with a club in Eltham, SE London. I ride mostly on roads in London and Kent, but I do the occasional cyclocross race on grass. I support Sky Ride because it is inclusive cycling in a safe environment.
  • Richard Wraith Richard Wraith I love to ride several times a week both on-road and off-road, and ride regularly with Bigfoot Cycling Club.

When I am not riding I am normally found tinkering with model airplanes and helicopters or looking after peoples websites, when I'm not walking my dogs :-)
  • Nick Humphreys Nick Humphreys Hi I'm Nick. I started cycling regularly about 3 years ago. I have always been interested and involved with sports since my teens, playing Rugby and Cricket for a number of teams in the Gravesend area. I took up Squash about 10 years ago playing most weekends, until a serious knee injury curtailed my participation. Part of the rehabilitation process to strengthen my knee involved cycling on an exercise bike. Once the physiotherapy was complete, I fixed up my bike which had stood dormant in my garage for many years and started going out for local rides on the long Summer evenings and most weekends. Since joining British Cycling and completing the Sky Ride Leadership course, I have met many like-minded enthusiasts and am looking forward to a great summer of social cycling. "
