Sky Ride Local in Leicester

This traffic-free family-friendly five mile ride shows off the delights of two of Leicester's many fine parks. Discover the delights of Braunstone Park, with its two lakes, children's playgrounds, walled garden and Grade II listed Georgian mansion house. If you're lucky, you might see Braunstone Flyers Model Aircraft Club's miniature aerobatic displays. The route then leads you into the adjacent Western Park, once part of the ancient Leicester Forest, a former hunting ground for the Earls of Leicester. This beautiful park also features the 'Eco House' - an environmentally-sustainable show home featuring the latest green technology. What better way to visit it than by bike?

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Lindsey Ball Lindsey Ball I’ve owned a bicycle for as long as I remember, but I really got back into cycling after completing the Sky Ride in 2011 - I really enjoyed cycling through a traffic free town, and after the event...I was hooked! After the Sky Ride, I started participating in local Breeze bike rides and I eventually became a Breeze Champion myself. Thanks to Breeze, I've made some lovely friends, found cycle routes (and coffee shops) that I didn't know existed and I now ride my bike regularly for commuting and pleasure as often as I can.
  • Linda Goddard Linda Goddard Hello,
I am passionate about encouraging people to get on their bikes. I see Breeze rides and Local Skyrides as a way to do this and to provide fun at the same time. I particularly want to encourage more women to get in the saddle!
Cycling is not only a way to get fit, but is also good for the environment. Think of the petrol saved!
It is also a social activity, where you can make new friends and be encouraged along by other riders.
My aim is to support both new and returning cyclists to gain the confidence to cycle more often.
I look forward to meeting you on the rides.
    Linda
  • Liz Goodman Liz Goodman Hi, I'm Liz - I love Leicester and cycling, so you can see why I might want to encourage people to get out and about on their bikes on a SkyRide Local in our city.

My favourite route is along the riverside out to Watermead Park and beyond - I could never get bored of this ride.

That said if I could ride anywhere in the world it would be to ride across the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco on a beach cruiser bike.

For now, I'll stick to the fab network of cycle routes that we have here in Leicestershire...

Ideal route for all bike types mainly on Cycle paths, with a small section of quiet road. Only spoilt by the little $#!@$ throwing stuff at my daughter as she went past on her trike :(
