Sky Ride Local in Coventry

Come join us on a fun steady ride through the beautiful Warwickshire countryside. Leaving the War Memorial Park we will be heading towards the centre of England, remember to bring some money with you as we may stop at the Cafe half way round. Moving on into Meriden we can stop for a photo opportunity and refreshments before heading back to the start. The ride is a long one at over 17 miles and has a few small hills to get the heart pumping, perfect for trying a first go at a longer ride.

We will start the ride at the entrance to the Park and Ride South near the brick paved area near the bus stop. There is no direct postcode for the car park, Sat Nav users beware!

The route has a few hills but nothing to taxing. Many of the country roads are in need of repair and whilst there are no major pot holes care should be taken.

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Mark Roberts I started taking up Road cycling in April 2012 after being sent out to buy some broccoli and I saw a lovely shiny road bike in the cycle shop window. I bought it and upgraded a little later and the only regret I have is not taking up cycling earlier.
I cycle in the week but mostly at the weekend in and around Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire.
  • Parmjit Dhugga Parmjit Dhugga Like many, I first got on a bike as a young boy but it is only in the last 5-6 years that it has become a regular part of my life. These days you will see me cycling around the Coventry and Warwickshire lanes or in the spinning class at the gym.

I’m also enthusiastic about getting other people on their bikes and for this reason became a Skyride ride leader. I’m a recreational cyclist and I like to sneak in the odd longish ride such as the Great Nottingham bike ride (50 miles) and the London to Brighton Ride (55 miles) together with weekend rides with the family around Rutland Water, Brampton Valley Way or along the High Peak and Tissington Trails. My next goals are the coast-to-coast ride followed by the London to Paris ride.

I was delighted to see that British Cycling are doing so much for recreational cyclists as well as professional and club cyclists. Cycling really is a great way to enjoy your free time, with the added bonus that it keeps you fit and healthy.

See you on a ride soon!
  • Peter Bellamy Peter Bellamy I have been cycling for the last couple of years, starting Skyrides this Summer. I joined British Cycling and saw the advert for leaders on their Website. I still cycle about 30 miles on Saturday or Sunday during the autumn and winter. I am not a road racer.
