Sky Ride Local in The Lake District

Not cycled for a while and looking for an easy way to get back in the saddle? Fancy a fun way to get your friends or kids riding? Our Easygoing rides are great for building confidence for all abilities and ages along relaxed, mostly traffic-free routes. They’re up to six miles long, with a gentle pace of around six miles an hour.

Celebration of Cycling
This ride will be part of a special Summer of Cycling Celebration event at Brockhole National Park Visitor Centre. There will be skills courses, electric bikes to try, vintage bikes, how to mend a puncture, face painting and a bike smoothie maker as well as the Sky Ride Local.

Come and join us on this amazing bike ride incorporating a boat trip across Windermere Lake.  Starting from Brockhole Visitor Centre we head across Windermere lake to access the peaceful western shore.  From here we make our way south on perfect surfaces designed with cyclists in mind to the impressive Wray Castle.  With plenty to see at the Castle it will be the perfect time for a breather and refreshments before making our way back to Brockhole Visitor Centre.  This route is just perfect for anybody visiting the Lakes and you will be surprised just what a difference a boat ride makes to take you away from the hustle and bustle of Bowness on the opposite side of the water!

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Keith Singleton Keith Singleton A keen year round cyclist, with a good milage under my belt, cycle to work a great deal, and get out at every availible oppurtunity.
love the outdoors and fresh air, get satisfaction from passing my knowledge ansd skillls on, to enable other people to enjoy cycling.
  • Henry Ramsey When I have spare time, popping out on my bike seems the most natural thing to do. Like so many cyclists of my age, in my 20s I raced, in my 30s I did triathlon and in my 40s I moved into mountain biking. Now in my 50s, the urge to race has been replaced by a simple need to ride. I ride much more slowly these days. I’m Sky Ride, Bikeability & Trail Leader qualified and I look forward to meeting new & familiar faces on Sky Rides.

Rider Comments on the Route

  1. Sam Taylor Sunday 11th August
Great Family Friendly ride, with excellent volunteers leading the group. Whole family enjoyed it. Only improvement would be slightly longer breaks to suit younger children.
  2. Jayne Gilbert Sunday 23rd June
We were just getting going when my chain snapped :-( Thanks for the friendly welcome.
