Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Karl Faetz Karl Faetz Hi everyone
Let me introduce myself, my name is Karl Faetz and I live in the Earsdon area of Newcastle Upon Tyne. I am married with 3 children.
I started cycling about 3 years ago and was hooked straight away. I really enjoy getting out in the fresh air and discovering new places. We have some beautiful scenic area's in the North East and I am sure you will soon discover just how different everything looks when you're on a bike.
Cycling is a great way to keep fit and loose some weight but most of all it is a fun sport and very satisfying. As a Sky Ride Leader I am here to help you on your journey into cycling and hopefully the start of many more rides.
  • Roderick Joyce I'm 59 and work as a freelance interpreter. I returned to cycling a couple of years ago, after a long break. My bikes are not just for fun; they are my everyday transport, too. I enjoy longer rides at a sensible pace - I'm not out to break any records!
  • Mark Lant Mark Lant Hi I am 45 and have only been cycling since 2009, I used cycling to lose weight and I managed to drop 4 stone in 12 months, still like my kebabs and pizza though so I have to work hard on the road to keep the weight off.

I have have taken part in a London to Paris charity ride and completed the Raid Pyrenees. I love riding abroad as the roads are better and the drivers treat cyclist better; however it is getting better here in the UK.

Rider Comments on the Route

  1. Anthony Jones Sunday 29th June
  2. Mark Forsyth Sunday 4th May
This is only 9 due to the busy road we had to cross, other than that it would be a perfect 10
  3. sadiq bawa Sunday 8th September
Very good and family friendly ride. I am returning back to cycling for health and weight loss and this is ideal ride to build up my cycling. I plan to start commuting to work and this increases my confidence on the road. The ride leaders were brilliant.
  4. Stuart Rutherford Monday 12th August
Fantastic and enjoyable bike ride, my first with the sky team but certainly not my last. Thanks to Phil and Sue, very well organised
