Sky Ride Local in Newcastle

This is a great route following NCN route 72 to Tynemouth and back again. The route takes in many lovely sights of Newcastle and the Tyne bridges, passing by Segedunum Roman fort, Royal Quays, Albert Dock Marina before arriving at Tynemouth and breathtaking views of the mouth of the river, Tynemouth Priory and the coast. There's also and excellent spot for blackberrying in August! This route is bound to be one of  Sky ride Newcastle's most popular routes.

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Max Hall Max Hall I'm a closing on 50 property surveyor that enjoys cycling for the health benefits, the scenery and to map out routes taking in the vast quantity of waggonways and byeways that this past industrial area have left us with. I have been cycling most of my life and cover around 250 miles a month during the spring, summer and autumn months of the year with the odd run out in the winter when there is no snow or ice on the ground. I like nothing more than helping people find the tracks near them that can get them away from busy and noisy roads. I am the route creator of the north tyneside waggonway riders putting together a route almost every weekend.

  • Anthony McKenna Anthony McKenna Hi everyone,

I'm really excited to start leading rides in our fantastic city. Whatever I can do to to help people feel the thrill of cycling, get some fresh air through your lungs and some blood pulsing in your veins, I will.

Let's get out there and enjoy ourselves (in a non competitive, Bradley Wiggins meets Dame Edna Everage type of style!)
  • Roderick Joyce I'm 59 and work as a freelance interpreter. I returned to cycling a couple of years ago, after a long break. My bikes are not just for fun; they are my everyday transport, too. I enjoy longer rides at a sensible pace - I'm not out to break any records!
