Sky Ride Local in Manchester

This is a fabulous traffic-free route within Wythenshawe wooded park with a stretch along a cycle lane on the northern and southern edges of the park. A great family park, with plenty of places for picnics and recreational facilities such as tennis courts, a children's play area and a café. The park is also steeped in history, so after the ride why not look out for the statue of Oliver Cromwell or explore historic Wythenshawe Hall?

Not cycled for a while and looking for an easy way to get back in the saddle? Fancy a fun way to get your friends or kids riding? Our Easygoing rides are great for building confidence for all abilities and ages along relaxed, mostly traffic-free routes. They’re up to six miles long, with a gentle pace of around six miles an hour.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • John Houghton John Houghton After taking early retirement I noticed that I was putting on weight due to not getting any exercise, so I decided to get back into cycling (after 20 years). I went on Manchester City Centre Sky Ride with the family and realised how much fun cycling was. Then I started doing the Local Sky Rides, starting with easy ones with my family, then as my strength and fitness improved I went on to complete the Steady and Well rides. After a few months I even managed the Strong rides as well.
When the rides stopped for Winter, I joined Stockport Community Cycling Club and started out on their easy rides and now even do their extra rides.
So from starting out doing 2-3 mile easy rides, I have completed the 100 mile Manchester 100.
If I can do this, then so can you. Just start easy and build your fitness and strength slowly.
Don't forget to bring puncture repair kit, spare inner tube, tyre levers and pump.
  • John Gordon
  • Matt Waggett Matt Waggett Hi folks,

    I'm Matt.

This is my first year as a Skyride Leader, so please be gentle...

I hope to get out as much as possible, and am trying to squeeze in as many chances to meet you wonderful people on rides as I can, which can be difficult as I spend most of my time working. :(

I am a front line Police Officer, and have been for 13 years now, but finally have got around to completing my Ride Leaders Qualification.

You could probably describe me as a keen enthusiast, but don't worry..I am far from an athlete.....shift work has seen to that!

I'm the type of guy that would go out of his way to make sure you have a great time on the ride, and please please do say hello and give me a wave, I don't bite! Better still, get booked on some rides and come out and play :)

I would be more than happy to ride along with you if at all possible, and should you want to stay close, just give me or one of the other leaders a shout and we will look after you...promise

    See you soon :)
