Sky Ride Local in Kirklees

Join us on this 12 mile ride using a mixture of the Spen & Calder Valley Greenway's and the Calder & Hebble canal. A mostly traffic free route using some local roads through urban areas boasting beautiful countryside, moorland views, a wildlife reserve and the rolling hills of West Yorkshire. Pass through the historic woollen mill town of Dewsbury, stop for refreshments at the picturesque Saville Town canal basin and see the fabulous new tunnel on the Ossett greenway link.  Keen eyed individuals will spot the old railway boundary stones, remnants of the old line, sculptures and short Haiku's written on bridges.

On the 18th August this ride will visit the Dewsbury Cycle Fest at the half way point of the ride.  The Cycle Fest is from 11am - 3pm at Sands Lane Playing Fields, Dewsbury where a range of cycling activities will be taking place.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Pip Mourne Pip Mourne I am a runner turned cyclist, my main passion is mountain biking but I also love getting out on the quiet country roads. I have recently been inspired by British Cycling to become a Bikeability Instructor which qualifies me to teach children in schools what we all knew as Cycle Profiency. As a result of this I was inspired to become a Sky Ride leader. I am now a Ride Leader and Route Planner for Sky Ride and I love it!!! Hopefully if you are reading this you will have booked onto a ride that I am leading so I look forward to meeting you soon! All rides will be led at a pace that all participants can cope with, so don't worry about Bradley Wiggins turning up, if he does he'll have to wait for us!!!! See you soon.
  • Gareth Hamlet Gareth Hamlet
  • Matt Blakeley Matt Blakeley A recent convert to cycling through the cycle to work scheme, I am now keen to get others into the sport. I class `myself as a good rider and knowledgeable and happy to help out locally across West Yorkshire.
