If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Gareth Somers Gareth Somers Hello "Sky Riders"

I came back to cycling some several years ago with an eight mile Sunday morning ride to try and get fit for my first thirty two mile charity ride.
Then I truly got the bug, I love being out on my bike in all weather especially in the sun and ridding with like minded cyclists.
I joined the Skyride team in 2013 and love to see the enjoyment people get (both young and old) from getting out on the bikes and exploring the countryside.I hope you enjoy your Skyride as much as the ride leaders do!
Really looking forward to spreading the word of how much fun cycling can be, lets hope the sun shines this summer on our Sky Rides!!

Ride safe, looking forward to meeting you on your next Sky Ride.

    Gareth
  • Parmjit Dhugga Parmjit Dhugga Like many, I first got on a bike as a young boy but it is only in the last 5-6 years that it has become a regular part of my life. These days you will see me cycling around the Coventry and Warwickshire lanes or in the spinning class at the gym.

I’m also enthusiastic about getting other people on their bikes and for this reason became a Skyride ride leader. I’m a recreational cyclist and I like to sneak in the odd longish ride such as the Great Nottingham bike ride (50 miles) and the London to Brighton Ride (55 miles) together with weekend rides with the family around Rutland Water, Brampton Valley Way or along the High Peak and Tissington Trails. My next goals are the coast-to-coast ride followed by the London to Paris ride.

I was delighted to see that British Cycling are doing so much for recreational cyclists as well as professional and club cyclists. Cycling really is a great way to enjoy your free time, with the added bonus that it keeps you fit and healthy.

See you on a ride soon!
  • Ian McFadyen I have watched the Tour de France on TV for years, but only started cycling in 2010 after setting myself the challenge of cycling from London to Paris - quitting smoking and starting to get healthier :-) This started an addiction, and since then I've participated in many sportives, organise a charity bike ride each year covering over 2500 miles of the UK, supported many British Cycling events, and watched professional events such as the Tour of Britain, and the Tour de France (I'm having a go at the Alps myself this year while I'm over following the Tour). It really is the best way to get fit, make new friends, and give you endless challenges to beat.
