Sky Ride Local in Bolton

Join us on this scenic route following the River Croal as it joins the River Irwell on its journey into Manchester.  Passing through no less than five different country parks, which pay tribute to industrial reclamation on a grand scale, you'll gain a wealth of local knowledge along the way.  First stop is Moses Gate Country Park to see the local residents; swans, geese and heron.  Continuing along the Irwell you'll have a spin around Clifton Country Park. Look out for the wild deer before you descend into Prestwich Forest Park.  The trail can get muddy in places so wider tyres are the better choice.

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Colin Hacker Colin Hacker I have been a keen cyclist for the last 15 years. My main interest is Cross Country Mountain Biking but I have also started getting into road cycling. I have also completed two Coast to Coast group rides from Ilfracombe to Plymouth and Whitehaven to Tynemouth which I thoroughly enjoyed. I met some great people and made some friends along the way. In Feb 2013 I took part in a challenge with 30 other riders cycling from Nairobi, Kenya to Ngorongoro, Tanzania to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

My new challenge for 2014 is to cycle the foothills of the Indian Himalayas in October so I will getting plenty of hill practice in this year!

I am really looking forward to ride leading for another year. The Sky rides have really inspired me to explore more of my local area and I have discovered some amazing places along the way.
  • Keith Singleton Keith Singleton A keen year round cyclist, with a good milage under my belt, cycle to work a great deal, and get out at every availible oppurtunity.
love the outdoors and fresh air, get satisfaction from passing my knowledge ansd skillls on, to enable other people to enjoy cycling.
  • Laurence Kitchinson Laurence Kitchinson I have been involved with Sky ride for three years now having participated in several rides with my three children each year and enjoyed them so much that I decided to become an assistant leader. We cycle regularly around our local area and when we take our caravan away on weekend breaks. When the weather is fine we cycle to school and back each day. There is no finer way to see the countryside around you than by bicycle and it keeps us all fit.
