Sky Ride Local in Kirklees

Join us on this circular ride that starts at Huddersfield Leeds Road Sports Complex.  This route makes use of the brilliant Route 66 and the beautiful Broad Canal to take in some stunning views from the disused viaduct at Dalton bank to the Canal Basins at Shepley bridge and Aspley.  At 14 miles this ride is perfect for anybody wanting to increase the distance they ride while remaining fairly flat all the way round.

This ride uses part of National Cycle Network (NCN) route 66 and 69. To find out more about the NCN and other great places to cycle near you everyday, go to the Sustrans website (http://www.sustrans.org.uk/ncn/map/national-cycle-network).

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Pip Mourne Pip Mourne I am a runner turned cyclist, my main passion is mountain biking but I also love getting out on the quiet country roads. I have recently been inspired by British Cycling to become a Bikeability Instructor which qualifies me to teach children in schools what we all knew as Cycle Profiency. As a result of this I was inspired to become a Sky Ride leader. I am now a Ride Leader and Route Planner for Sky Ride and I love it!!! Hopefully if you are reading this you will have booked onto a ride that I am leading so I look forward to meeting you soon! All rides will be led at a pace that all participants can cope with, so don't worry about Bradley Wiggins turning up, if he does he'll have to wait for us!!!! See you soon.
  • Kate Duckett When I started cycling just a few years ago, I couldn't even get up even the smallest, shortest of hills. But I loved every minute that I was cycling and just wanted to do more and more of it. Now I cycle to work, to the shops or just for the sheer pleasure of it.

I love all the Greenways and National Cycle Network routes and am keen to help people of all abilities get the most out of the type of cycling they want to do. I'll be leading mostly easygoing or steady rides on flat, traffic free or quiet routes, so no matter if you've hardly done any riding before or if you're keen to get more confident on your bike, there'll be a ride that's right for you.

I'm looking forward to meeting loads of people who are keen to get on their bikes as I am, so please book onto a ride near you and give it a go.
  • Ian David Bangay Ian David Bangay A keen cyclist, for pleasure and commuting, I enjoy riding and like to see the sense of achievement, for all stages and all types of groups.

I like longer journeys on the road but am equally happy off-road and on established cycle ways. The great thing about Sky rides is being out with a group of people who are out to enjoy a relaxing cycle, and quick to support each other.
