Sky Ride Local in Southampton

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, a
Starting from Redbridge railway station this 14.4 mile Steady ride is for anyone who wants to ride that little bit further but still enjoy the relaxed pace and to savour some great country scenes.  Our ride is a rural delight, taking us immediately into the countryside with views of the River Test and an Elizabethan cottage. Our stop is at the lovely Compass Inn village pub in Winsor for a well-deserved drink. There's even a ford to cool off in if the weather is really kind!
There is one short section of rutted bridleway on the route so we recommend 'no road bikes' but it is up to each individual, you certainly do not need a mountain bike for this route.

Rider Comments on the Route

  1. Ali Baker Monday 12th August
This is a beautiful ride. You see a lot of countryside. You cycle along country lanes. You cross the river. You go through a village. Where there are main roads there is an alternative route along cycle paths and along quiet roads. You cross over a few main roads but that's all... you just cross them then you are back onto the quiet path. A lot of flat or down hill. Not much up hill. Some very pebbly bits but most of the route smooth. One ford which was just like a puddle really as it is August.
  2. Jonathan Hayward Monday 12th August
Enjoyable Sunday cycle at a leisurely pace.
  3. Kev Winchcombe Monday 12th August
A nice ride to get my 12 year old daughter cycling again, steady pace, lots to see and a nice beer stop (not for her of course)
  4. Melike Oguz-Alper Sunday 11th August
It was a much more easygoing route rather than a steady one. I am not quite sure that the farm road we passed through was suitable for road tyres.
