Breeze Bike Rides in Leeds

Otley Cycle Fest Ride to Cavendish Pavilion at Bolton Abbey
Bring cash for refreshments, and a bike lock for securing your bike at the cafe.
A special occasion today, as the Champions of Breeze Network Leeds join forces with Otley Cycle Club for the annual Festival of Cycling, which this year is to be held at Ashfield Primary School in Otley. We leave the school at 9.15, and head out along the quiet rural backroads towards Bolton Abbey to take in one of the best rides in our area. We pass through the villages of Weston and Askwith, and will enjoy beautiful views in the stunning Wharfe Valley.
When we arrive at Ilkley, there will be an opportunity for some riders to take refreshments in a local cafe, before turning back with a Champion to shorten their ride to 14 miles. The remaining cyclists and Champions will continue along the narrow rolling lanes to Bolton Abbey and the Cavendish Pavilion cafe, which is buzzing with cyclists on a weekend morning. Having worked up a healthy appetite, we will hopefully be able to enjoy our cake and coffee sitting outside in some warm summer sunshine! Refueled, we retrace our steps back to Otley.
Once back at Ashfield Primary School, the Festival will continue in to the evening with a programme of family friendly cycling themed events, a bar and hot food.

Meet the Champions

  • Stephenie Burke Hi, Steph here! I'm married to Dermot, & am Mum to 4 teenagers who keep me on my toes! I cycled a lot before having children, then got back in to it in Jan 2013. I am now totally addicted and hope to share the love. I am also a leader for Otley Social Series, a group of leisure riders who are affiliated with Otley Cycle Club. I love to chat on rides about anything that crops up, but my favourite topics are cycling...of course, & family, Team Sky, music, books, travel, good Yorks ride routes & cafe stops for cake. My profile photo was taken in front of the finish line of the 2013 Tour De France where I rode in Le Randonee Du Tour, a celebration of the 100th Tour De France. After I watched the final on the Champs Elysees which I have longed to do for many years and was amazing. Next year the Tour comes to us in Yorkshire and I am already excited! Hope to see you some time soon for cycling and chat :0)
  • Ann Howe I started cycling in spring 2013 and cannot believe how it has taken over my life! I try to get out on a ride at least twice a week, or more if the weather is good! Last year I joined the social cycling group at my local cycle club, and through that I have met lots of new people and made some very good friends. But we ladies are still in the minority so I am pleased to be able to offer the chance for local women to join me or one of my fellow Breeze Champions on our organised rides in the Menston/Otley/Guiseley/Horsforth areas. We will be offering rides of varying abilities and distances. Hope to see you on one of our rides very soon! Ann
  • Jill Birch Having had a year of riding out with Otley Cycle Club Social Series and meeting new friends as well as finding fabulous new routes that I never knew existed, I would now like to share that with you to introduce you to the fabulous cycling that is available on our doorstep.
