Starting Point & Postcode
Evans Cycle Store, Unit 3, Julia Avenue, Monks Cross Shopping Park (between the new John Lewis store and Asda at the main Monks Cross retail park).  YO32 9JR
Overall Duration On a long ride, it’s sometimes good to have a little break in the middle, or maybe a catch up at the beginning or end to keep it sociable. This means that the overall ride duration may be longer than the actual cycling time.
4 hours 0 mins  (3 hours 0 mins cycling)
Bike Type You probably don’t want to drag your road bike across bumpy trails. Maybe you want to make the most of the suspension on your mountain bike. This helps you match your ride to your bike.

Breeze Bike Rides in York

Meet at Evans bike store, Monks Cross for 10am departure - so please try to get there 10 minutes before. Bring cash for coffee stop, wear suitable clothing for the weather, and pack tools/spare inner tube/pump for cycle repairs just in case.

The route to Castle Howard and back is about 30 miles and takes in some hills, so this is not the best first ride for beginners. However, we will ride as a group and whilst we'll aim for around 13/14mph on the flat, we'll take the hills gently for practice for the York 100 ride in August: http://www.action.org.uk/york_100/routes

The ride will take us along part of the route of the York 100 as follows:
Through Huntington, up Strensall Road, Flaxton Road, Stittenham, Bulmer (where there is a challenging hill - some details here http://veloviewer.com/segment/787247/Bulmer+Bank
but if you never try you'll never know... and we will congregate as a group at the top and wait for everyone) then on to Castle Howard.

After a cake and coffee break we'll return via Crambe, Bossall, Sand Hutton and Stockton-on-the-Forest then back to to Evans Cycle store.

Meet the Champions

  • Nicky Proctor Hi, I'm Nicky, your Breeze Champion based in York.
I love the feeling of freedom I get from riding my bike and want to help others to enjoy cycling!
Until a few years ago I'd never ridden a road bike, but now I lead group rides and coach triathlon with York Triathlon Club.
I welcome anyone new to cycling to come along and give it a try: why should it just be kids that get to play on their bikes? Come and join one of our rides and have some fun!
