Sky Ride Local in Liverpool

PLEASE NOTE DUE TO THE LIVERPOOL HALF MARATHON THIS WEEKEND (29 MARCH 2015) THE START LOCATION AND MEETING POINT WILL BE AT SEACOMBE FERRY TERMINAL CAR PARK, 1030AM.

Please read all the information below before booking on.

The group meets at Pier Head Ferry Terminal and boards the world famous "Ferry across the Mersey" to Seacombe to ride over 10 magnificent miles of traffic free coastal paths. At Seacombe we pick up the National Cycle Network 56 along the River Mersey shoreline through Wallasey. As the cycle around the head at New Brighton the Irish Sea will come into view and the picturesque views of the magnificent coast. It's traffic free all the way until we join the suburban roads outside of Sandhey.

It's not long until we re-join the NCN 568 for more traffic free cycle paths, heading south past the Wirral Country Park and along the coast until Parkgate, our most outward point and our proposed food stop. It's a straight return on quiet country lanes and cycle paths, through Poulton and meandering through the streets as we return to the Docks. There are plenty of stopping points on the way and a chance to admire the beautiful scenery.

Timings

The group will board the 10am ferry from Pier Head, so please meet with enough time to purchase a ticket if necessary but also to exchange the ticket for a boarding pass. The ferry will arrive at Seacombe at 1030am. Due to the nature of the ride and potential issues we cannot guarantee the exact time of the return ferry, however we expect the group to arrive for the ferry departing Seacombe at 1530pm and arriving at Pier Head at 1550pm. Ferries depart Seacombe at 30minutes past every hour so please be aware this.

Please note that a ferry ticket will need to be purchased prior to the start of the ride. The advice is to buy an ‘All Areas’ Saveaway ticket from a vendor. Conveniently there is a vendor at Pier Head Ferry Terminal, where the group will meet. This ticket can then be exchanged for a boarding pass at the ticket office.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Laurence Moore I've been pretty much a lone cyclist all my adult life and enjoyed the solitude and time for reflection that it's brought. But last year, with no great enthusiasm on my part, our daughter persuaded me to participate in a couple of Skyride events and I enjoyed them that much that I applied for and became a ride leader last December. The events brought home something that I guess I've known for a long time, and that's that if there were enough cyclists around every corner of every road then drivers would have to start noticing us and the roads would be far safer for all. So I see the rides as helping to promote and encourage (and perhaps help with the confidence that's needed for) the greater use of bikes. Bring on the revolution. Please supply your own puncture repair kit and pump though.
  • David Gara
David Gara Always loved cycling. Got back into it a few years ago after hiring a mountain bike on holiday. Now all the family is hooked - my eldest is also a Skyride leader! I also help out at my youngest's primary school as a Bikeability instructor. Looking forward to some good rides this summer so feel free to book a place.
