Book review: Boy Racer by Mark Cavendish
Title: Boy Racer
Author: Mark Cavendish
Publisher: Ebury Press, 2010
Guest reviewer Alex Girdler reckons the Manx Missile’s autobiography is a must read.
Boy Racer by Mark Cavendish is an autobiographical treat. ‘Honest’, ‘frank’ and ‘witty’ it reads on the back cover – and it is precisely that. As a reader you follow the story of how one man’s passion and bolshy attitude helped develop him into a multiple Tour de France stage winner. You also gain a great insight into the early days of current professional cyclists and staff, including Geraint Thomas, Rod Ellingworth and Matt Brammeier.
Now a father and soon-to-be husband, Cavendish has come a long way in his personal life since penning this memoir back in 2010 – and personally I can’t wait for the next instalment.
Our guest reviewer Alex Girdler is an ex-high jump athlete, originally from Leicester, who now lives on the border of the South Downs. Alex has competed in cyclocross and closed circuit races and dreams of setting off one day on a crazy bicycle tour.
