Ed Clancy

Ed Clancy started cycling when he was five years old. At 15 he was spotted when attending a British Cycling event and was part of the first intake into the British Cycling Academy, which also included Mark Cavendish and Geraint Thomas. What's followed is a raft of medals, including five World Championship and two Olympic Golds.
Fast facts:
- Ed's favourite sport (apart from cycling) is motorsport
- Ed rides for domestic road race team Rapha-Condor-Sharp
Ed specialises in the team pursuit on the track and in Beijing 2008 was a member of the Olympic team pursuit squad who broke the World Record twice on their way to a Gold medal. Ed acted as 'man one' for the team pursuit, meaning he was responsible for using his speed and endurance to get the team up to speed as quickly as possible over the first one and a half laps.
Following on from a fantastic 2008 which saw Ed add a World Championship title and an MBE to his Olympic Gold medal, he turned his attention back to the road. In his first domestic race of the season, Ed took home the Gold once again, winning the Eddie Soens Memorial Race.
Following the introduction of the Omnium to the 2012 Olympic Games programme, Ed has tried his hand at the event with great success. His power and sprinting skills, combined with his proven endurance ability, saw him take the World Champion title in 2010 on his first attempt at the event.
In 2012 Clancy was part of the Team Pursuit team who won the World Champions' title in Melbourne. This was a title that they hadn’t won since the World Championships in 2008 in Manchester. They kept this form at London 2012 posting two new world records on the way to Olympic Gold. Ed also competed in the Ominium and added a Bronze to end a very successful London 2012.
