Jason Kenny goes on a Breeze bike ride to celebrate volunteers

Jason Kenny meets BreezeToday, Breeze were part of a national campaign to help inspire more volunteers to get active in their local community.

Join In, the home of the Olympic and Paralympic volunteers, has launched a summer-long drive to encourage people to volunteer.

As Breeze and other community groups throw open their doors to attract new volunteers, sporting hero Jason Kenny came along on a Breeze bike ride in Bolton to thank our volunteer Breeze champions for giving up their spare time and keeping the Games Makers’ spirit alive. He was given a master class on how to lead a Breeze bike ride including signaling and maneuvering and pre-ride safety checks. In typical Breeze fashion, the ride finished with a slice of cake and a decent brew!

Running over the anniversary period of the Games, (27 July – 9 September 2013) the Join In Summer 2013 is bringing the legacy to your doorstep with over 10,000 local events being put on in clubs and community groups up and down the UK.

Double Olympic Gold medal-winning cyclist, Jason Kenny said:

'Last year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games were made special by the thousands of Games Makers and volunteers, without whom that amazing spectacle of sport wouldn’t have been possible. One year on and we now need an even bigger army of volunteers to ensure that the legacy of London 2012 is alive and kicking at sports clubs and community projects across the UK. It’s great to see so many of these inspiring people at today’s Join In event in Bolton.'

Natalie Justice, Breeze Project Manager, said:
'Today has been a great opportunity for our Breeze champions to meet an incredible role model.  Our Breeze bike rides are designed to bring women together to enjoy the fun and freedom of riding a bike. It wouldn’t be possible without the dedication and spirit of our volunteer Breeze champions who organise the rides. Hopefully, today will inspire more women to volunteers and help inspire women to get on their bikes. We’re thrilled to be able to provide even more opportunities for volunteers, having just released new dates for our training courses.’
