Facilities
Hubs are the ideal place to lock up your bike with confidence. Join Transport for Greater Manchester’s scheme and you can park your bike under full cover, with other security measures that include constant CCTV coverage and swipe card entry. They are somewhere to keep your bike safe, secure and dry while you're at work – find out more.
The National Cycling Centre was Britain's first indoor Olympic cycling track, and since it opened in 1994, has become one of the World's finest and fastest board tracks. The track is in use seven days a week and offers sessions to anyone seeking to experience this exciting sport.
In July 2011, the National Cycling Centre was expanded significantly with the launch of a new purpose built indoor BMX Complex. It houses the UK’s only permanent indoor BMX track with seating for two thousand fans. With a comprehensive BMX track programme catering for all riders; from novice to elite, school children to masters aged from 18months upwards.
Mountain Bike trails run through Clayton Vale, a green space through the Medlock River Valley Corridor. The trails are 12km in length comprising of four different skill levels ranging from easy to expert. Find out more about what’s on offer at the National Cycling Centre.

Free adult cycle training
Transport for Greater Manchester are passionate about cycling and giving people the confidence and skills to cycle on roads, lanes and paths. As well as delivering adult cycle training sessions, both on the road and in traffic-free environments, they offer maintenance courses and Ride Leader training. All courses are led by expert instructors, take place throughout the year in various locations across Greater Manchester and are completely FREE! Find out more and sign up to a course near you.
Where to ride
Whether you're planning your ride to work, an afternoon with the kids or looking to explore further afield, cycling is a great and cheap way to get around. Transport for Greater Manchester have lots of helpful tips and tools to find and plan your route.
They have also produced cycle maps containing all cycle routes in each of the ten districts of Greater Manchester. Maps include details for bike parking, cycle services and shops. You can download a pdf or pick one up from any one of their travelshops, your local library or council office and start exploring. They have also enhanced their online cycle map to incorporate additional functionality including multi-layered mapping, follow this link for more information.
