Sky Ride Local in Leicester

This six mile ride explores the quiet roads and traffic-free paths around the River Soar and Belgrave Way. Starting at the Abbey Park Cafe, you'll make your way north on quiet roads to Rushey Mead before joining Leicester's hidden gem - the riverside corridor. Despite being within a stone's throw of Leicester's city centre, the watery corridor of the River Soar and the Grand Union canal has a distinctly green and rural feel. However look right as you follow the waterside paths and you'll see the hi-tech tower of Leicester's Space Centre, before entering the tranquil surroundings of Abbey Park for the final leg back to Belgrave Hall.

Please note that this ride not suitable for recumbent bikes and bike trailers.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Hilary Thumpston
  • Mokhtar Elareshi Hi,
I'm a passionate about encouraging people to get on their bikes.

I've been cycling with Skyride since 2009 and I love cycling with them. I like to cycle and I usually ride a hybrid or mountain bike but I have also a race bike. The latter I use to cycle those lovely Leicester countryside.

I cycled once with Leicester Forest but more often with Spokes ride and Of Course with Sky ride as assistant leader.

I will be assisting leader rides in the Leicester and Birmingham areas this season and look forward to meeting you on these rides :-)

Rider Comments on the Route

  1. Roger Lancaster Friday 11th July
Good friendly leaders, with lots of advice and help. My first ride, but found it strange to be escorted across road junctions etc. in a group. But fully understand why.

Excellent ride, even taking into account the heat!!!!! First 'urban' ride and really nice having the leaders on point duty at junctions, especially with my son (6) who's not used to riding on the road. Thanks guys.
