Sky Ride Local in Carlisle

This route is mostly flat, undemanding and on quiet minor roads. Making it an ideal confidence builder for anyone looking to venture out a bit further on their bike. Much of the route is scenic and on a clear day, the southern uplands of Scotland and the northern fells of the Lake District can be seen. The final 3 miles back to Dalston is mainly downhill, so a great way to finish a lovely ride.

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Ian Ludlam Ian Ludlam I became a skyride leader because I want to introduce people to cycling. My passion is cycle touring. I am a member of Eden Valley Cycle Touring Club in Cumbria. As well as cycle tours in the UK I have cycled in the Pyreneas, France, Majorca and Corsica. I am also a volunteer for Watchtree Wheelers - a 'wheels for all' centre based at Watchtree Nature Reserve near Carlisle.
  • Tim Kirby Tim Kirby Hi, my name is Tim and have a huge passion for cycling, including road racing, sportives and fun rides. I look forward to seeing you on the rides this year, and I'm sure you will have a great time.
  • Kevin Crawley Why become a Sky Ride Leader we were asked on the training course. For me it's because I love cycling and want to share that with other people. With the possible exception of riding in strong wind there is almost nothing I don't like about it I've cycled all my life, well since I was 5 and my Dad took the stabilisers off! Nowadays, I commute 3 to 4 days a week on my 15 year old mountain bike, I do a bit of Time Trailing during the summer months as a member of Border City Wheelers, which encourages me to get out regularly and pedal around the roads in north Cumbria to keep fit. I'm passionate about bikes as a sustainable form of transport and Sky Rides are an opportunity to share that passion.
