Sky Ride Local in St. Albans

You don’t have to be the next Bradley Wiggins, but you’ll need to know your way around a bike and be fairly fit to take part in our Challenging rides. If you’re comfortable riding with other people and fancy a fresh challenge, these rides are perfect for you. They start at around twenty miles long, and are paced at between 11 and 12 miles an hour.
Astonishingly, this rural idyll is just 30 miles outside London. Riding out of Heartwood Forest, soon to be England's largest wood, we ride alongside hedgerows and wooded glades, up and down out of valleys into the lesser-known and stunning North East Chilterns. We stop at Shaw's Corner (former home of George Bernard Shaw) and drop in for a treat at Emily's Tea Shop, a mecca for local cyclists. Look out for red kites on the road up to Bendish as we return via Harpenden.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • John Davis John Davis I've been cycling ever since I was a child. My passion is road cycling but love a bit of muddy off road mountain biking too. You can often find me competing in Sportive and Charity cycle rides. Nothing gives me more pleasure than seeing peoples faces when they are having fun. And what better way of having fun than coming out on a Sunday ride and meeting new people.
  • Nicholas Bury Nicholas Bury I recently completed the Sky Ride Leader course. My aim is to show how enjoyable and healthy cycling can be and as an experienced cyclist I want to be able to pass on my experience and knowledge to others.
I'm a registered Bikeability Cycle Training Instructor and run cycle training lessons for individuals and groups of all ages and abilities.
