Sky Ride Local in Kirklees

Come and join us on this fantastic challenging ride taking in 27 amazing miles around the Kirklees district.  As anybody from the area will know Huddersfield is hilly and this ride really makes the most of this.  Climbing them can be a challenge, but a challenge that really is rewarded with stunning views across a beautiful West Yorkshire landscape.  Don't be put off though as there are plenty of flat sections in between hills to appreciate 'Last of the Summer Wine' country and as with all our rides, it's a bike ride we do together!

This ride uses part of National Cycle Network (NCN) route 68. To find out more about the NCN and other great places to cycle near you everyday, go to the Sustrans website (http://www.sustrans.org.uk/ncn/map/national-cycle-network).

You don’t have to be the next Bradley Wiggins, but you’ll need to know your way around a bike and be fairly fit to take part in our Challenging rides. If you’re comfortable riding with other people and fancy a fresh challenge, these rides are perfect for you. They start at around twenty miles long, and are paced at between 11 and 12 miles an hour.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Timothy Greenwood Timothy Greenwood I like to enjoy myself when riding my bike and hope that everyone else can have fun cycling as well. That's why I am intending to lead rides with far more downhill than uphill (pretty tricky to arrange round here !), as it's much easier.
As an occasional cyclist for well over 40 years I am gradually coming to the conclusion that my chances of an Olympic medal or winning the Tour de France are slipping away. But I will be keeping up the training with a weekly ride whenever possible during the summer, just in case. I would appreciate the company and hope to see as many as possible out and about with me.
  • Jamie Matu I am a keen cyclist and triathlete attempting to boost cycling participation at grass roots level, via leading safe and enjoyable Sky Rides.
  • David Pickett Hello, I've been cycling ever since I was a child. Going up and down the road or bridle paths for hours at a time. I now commute most days with the occasional longer ride on my days off.
I like to think I'm laid back and approachable, always willing to help someone in need.
