Sky Ride Local in Swindon

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.
This 10 mile steady ride ticks every box in terms of idyllic roads, countryside scenery and meandering cycle paths.
We begin at Coate Water Country Park and head south on country lanes through Badbury Wick and to the quaint village of Liddington. The road builds up throughout in a very shallow climb before we emerge at Wanborough to a short descent into the village. There are plenty of stopping points available here to replenish before heading up north on Wanborough Rd to Covingham. From here the ride ventures off the country roads and onto the cycle paths as we meander our way through Dorcan, down to The Great Western Hospital and back alongside Marlborough Road to Coate Water Country Park.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Rafe Aldridge I got back into cycling aged 35 and my interest has just grown and grown since then. I am keen mountain (MTB) biker but have also developed a passion for endurance road rides. I've also dedicated, and continue to dedicate, a lot of time & energy to improving access to cycling at a local level (started a MTB club and became a MTB instructor and a SkyRide Leader) as well as helping people raise money for charity via cycling.
  • Neil Daycock "I have cycled most of my life. Started at 14 with a 2 week touring ride in South Wales. Took up racing, which was fun, but enjoyed the training in France, Italy, and Northern Spain the best. Volunteered as a cycle trainer at local school 19 years ago. Then took up professional cycle training and became a Bikeability Provide 5 years ago. Since then I have become a bike mechanical, MTB Ride Leader and run social bike rides. The scenery changes so much quick when riding."
