Sky Ride Local in Swindon

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.
This lovely 16.1 mile figure of eight ride takes us through Swindons central cycle network and out towards the meandering country lanes towards Purton and Purton Stoke. The ride begins at Oasis Leisure Centre and heads past the green of Moredon towards Mouldon Hill Country Park. From there we cycle east towards Lydiard, leaving the urban scenery behind for rural Wiltshire. It's a ride north through Purton and meandering on glorious country lanes to Purton Stoke where we can stop off for a refreshment. It's all return from here as we pass the Swindon and Crickdale Railway entering north Swindon. Passing by Mouldon Hill Country Park and returning to Oasis Leisure centre via the designated cycle network the route encompasses everything about urban and rural cycling.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Chris Hopkinson Chris Hopkinson
  • Phil Dollimore Phil Dollimore Hi everyone, and great to have you on the ride. During the week I am a college lecturer and got back into cycling about four years ago for the exercise. I'd forgotten just how good cycling is. I'm built for comfort for not speed, so don't worry about keeping up and I'm really keen to get people cycling, especially if they haven't done so for a while.
Looking forward to seeing you on the ride.

    Phil
  • Robert Priday Robert Priday Hi,

I'm Robert and looking forward to sharing a cycle ride with you.

I have cycled most of the past fifty years for pleasure and a pleasurable commute.

I know the south of Swindon area quite well where I will be often out either on a touring or race bike, I also enjoy exploring tracks on the downs.

I have a son, now 19, who at the age of ten I led from Lands End to John O'Groats over the school holidays three years. We started with 5-10 mile distances taking in many attractions including a detour to Alton Towers before finishing with a final 60 mile.

I have cycled on the mainland in Germany, Netherlands, France and Spain including the Alpes and Pyrennes, often with my son. Still looking to go further afield and looking to cycle some of the Eurovelo routes.

Looking forward to riding with you. Happy cycling
