Starting Point & Postcode
Paved area in front of The Bargate City centre SO14 2BY
Overall Duration On a long ride, it’s sometimes good to have a little break in the middle, or maybe a catch up at the beginning or end to keep it sociable. This means that the overall ride duration may be longer than the actual cycling time.
2 hours 15 mins  (1 hours 30 mins cycling)
Bike Type You probably don’t want to drag your road bike across bumpy trails. Maybe you want to make the most of the suspension on your mountain bike. This helps you match your ride to your bike.

Sky Ride Local in Southampton

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.
Check out this wonderful 13 mile sea view ride along the shoreline of Weston, Southampton Water, starting from the historic Bargate and following the shoreline all the way to the ancient maritime village of Hamble, via the Royal Victoria Country Park and back again. There's so much to see along the way, including the Norman Gateway to the medieval town of Southampton (Bargate), Itchen Bridge, Weston Shore views, the Chapel in Royal Victoria Country Park and, of course, beautiful Hamble village itself. There are two great refuelling stops too, at Hamble Beach Café or in the country park. Please note that this ride is ideally suited for mountain bikes, hybrid type of bikes and non- racing bikes.

  • Kieran Kenny Kieran Kenny Hi my name's Kieran, I got the cycling bug again about 2 1/2 years ago when my father in law took about doing Lands End to John O'Groats for his 60th by himself over 3 weeks. It really inspired me to dust off my old bike and get out there, Within minutes I was hooked again and that was only 1 small ride. Since then I have been commuting 12-15 miles everyday and I absolutely love it, I am always looking for ways to get out and about even more on my 2 wheels. So grab your bikes and join us this summer.
  • Peter French Peter French
  • Ruth Crawford Ruth Crawford I'm a Breeze and Sky Ride leader based in Basingstoke and a big fan of riding what's on my own doorstep with Hampshire's mix of quiet roads and bridleways (well most of them...), as well as exploring, leading, and taking part in rides and events further afield. See you out there.
