Starting Point & Postcode
Kirkby Leisure Centre Cherryfield Drive L32 8SA
Overall Duration On a long ride, it’s sometimes good to have a little break in the middle, or maybe a catch up at the beginning or end to keep it sociable. This means that the overall ride duration may be longer than the actual cycling time.
3 hours 30 mins  (2 hours 45 mins cycling)
Bike Type You probably don’t want to drag your road bike across bumpy trails. Maybe you want to make the most of the suspension on your mountain bike. This helps you match your ride to your bike.

Sky Ride Local in Knowsley

A rolling route through lovely countryside with only one significant climb.  The route starts by looping around the periphery of Aintree and then heading through rolling farmland passing the villages of Bickerstaffe and Rainford on route to Billinge.  There is a café stop at Fir Tree Farm on Pimbo Lane (popular stop with cyclists, even Bradley Wiggins has stopped here - according to the owners).  The only climb of the route is a sharp ascent of Billinge Hill, and this comes soon after the café stop, before a long descent through Billinge and back to Rainford.  The route then meanders through the countryside back to Kirkby.

You don’t have to be the next Bradley Wiggins, but you’ll need to know your way around a bike and be fairly fit to take part in our Challenging rides. If you’re comfortable riding with other people and fancy a fresh challenge, these rides are perfect for you. They start at around twenty miles long, and are paced at between 11 and 12 miles an hour.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • David Gara David Gara Always loved cycling. Got back into it a few years ago after hiring a mountain bike on holiday. Now all the family is hooked - my eldest is also a Skyride leader!
I also help out at my youngest's primary school as a Bikeability instructor
    .
Looking forward to some good rides this summer so feel free to book a place.
  • Cliff Seggie Cliff Seggie Hi

I have participated in lots of Sky Rides and decided to become a Sky Ride leader last year so that I could continue to do this whilst also helping others to enjoy Sky Ride.

I have done lots of charity rides, Sportives', Tour of Britain Tour Ride and last year the Prudential London 100. I look forward meeting you on Sky Rides this year.

Rider Comments on the Route

  1. Del Arnall Sunday 13th July
Really enjoyable day, but ride needs to be listed with "extremely challenging" definitely the most difficult ride we've done so far :)
  2. Ian Stephens Sunday 13th July
A nice ride/route helped me to a total 45 miles for the day, my fall did not spoil my ride, a sore elbow will make me concentrate better next time!
  3. PAUL SCOTT Sunday 13th July
Good ride out, even the climb up Billinge! The leaders were great.
  4. Steve Main Sunday 22nd September
Fab ride with a friendly group led by a very supportive team of leader. Thanks guys
