Sky Ride Local in Stafford

Join us on some amazing rides, created in association with our friends at the National Trust. Make the most of some beautiful countryside, and great facilities for cyclists.
If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.
Enjoy a ride along the waterways via the Staffs, Worcester, Trent and Mersey canals until you reach Lockhouse Cafe where you can treat yourself to tea and cakes! From the Lockhouse, the ride passes over Essex Bridge into Shugborough park where you can see fine views of the house itself where the world famous royal photographer Lord Lichfield lived. Views across the park towards Cannock Chase are magnificent. Enjoy a ride through the forested part of the park before a short road section back to the canal tow path and the return leg to Stafford.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • David Tipper David Tipper Hi I am Dave Tipper and I have been mountain biking for 20 years. More recently I have returned to road cycling on a weekly basis in addition to my MTB. I am looking forward to leading you on cycle rides and using the skills I learned on a number of cycle leadership courses to good effect.
  • Laura Ganderton Laura Ganderton
  • Peter Jackson Peter Jackson My name is Pete.
I often ride with my son and we get out as often as we can. I enjoy the freedom, fresh air and fun of being out on a bike.
Being a member of the skyride leader team gives me the opportunity to put something back into cycling and I hope that by coming on a Sky ride you will be inspired to cycle more, whether on another Sky ride local, by joining a social group or riding with friends and family.
