Sky Ride Local in Glasgow

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.
This is an enjoyable steady out and back route that starts and finishes at Pollok Country Park. This route navigates along the White Cart Water cycle path and through Glasgow's Southside before gradually ascending up to the Cathkin Braes Country Park. The route incorporates both roads and cycle paths that gradually make their way up to this year's Commonwealth Games Mountain Bike Trails and offers spectacular views North of Campsie Fells and Greater Glasgow. The route returns to Pollok Park via the same route.

*The route advertised may be subject to slight adjustments due to the Commonwealth Games.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Bryan Harte I have been actively cycling over the last couple of years and try to take my bike where ever I go. My main passion is for mountain biking, I just love to be out in the hills and forests but I also enjoy a gentle cycle around my local towns and villages. I look forward to meeting you all and hope you enjoy your days riding with us.

  • Fiona Wallace Hi I’m Fiona and I’m really looking forward to meeting you on our Sky Ride Local. Despite being a fairly recent convert, cycling has taken over my life in a big way nowadays and whenever possible I take the bike instead of the car. Although I am mostly a “roadie” (I am a member of Walkers Cycling Club in Ayrshire), I have also done some off-road stuff, mostly on tracks or through forests. And if my sanity deserts me completely, This year's target is to complete "10 tons" - ten different century rides with the century being either metric or imperial. Anyone know Chris Hoy's phone number so I can borrow his thighs for a few months?

But above all, I cycle because it is fun and that is why I love the Sky Ride Local set-up so much. Not only are the routes great but you also meet like-minded people. I really like the way that the Sky Rides Local cater for all ability levels, and participants can pick a level they are comfortable at but also know they can step up if they wanted to. So despite the glowing cycling cv above, when you meet me, you won’t find a Superwoman in a cape with her pants on over her tights wanting to belt round the course at the speed of light. For me it’s about having an enjoyable ride with good company and of course some very silly jokes and patter along the way.

But enough of the waffle - let’s get out and Skyride. See you Sunday.

Oh and by the way, if you get back to the start point before me, you have to buy me an ice cream. Now, should I tell ‘em I always cycle at the back of the group?
