Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Bill McLaren Bill McLaren I'm the ride leader that proves you don't have to be super fit to enjoy cycling. In fact I got back on 2 wheels after having a heart attack in 2008 while out in the hills (Air/Sea rescue is not the best way to get a free helicopter ride).
Since then I've taken part in Skyride Local for a few years as well as doing a some charity rides and mainly just leave the car at home in favour of the bike whenever I can.
  • Angela Christie
  • Phil Draper Phil Draper Hi, I'm Phil.
This year, 2014, will be my sixth year as a Skyride Leader, and I look forward to meeting both new and weel-kent faces again this year.
I've been cycling regularly for the last couple of decades or so, both mtb and road cycling. I've been a member of the Glasgow Mountain Bike Club since 1989 and I 'served my time' as Chairman from 1992 to 1999. I competed for a couple of seasons in mtb cross-country racing at Super-Vet level. I have also taken part in numerous Trailquests, which is a bit like orienteering on a bike, and is great for honing your navigational skills (though it doesn't stop you going wrong if you're not concentrating!).
My latest challenge was completing Lands End to John o' Groats in a fortnight, just after my 67th birthday, well chuffed I did it and thanks to the pals I did it with!
I look forward to meeting you and to an enjoyable Skyride season again.
