Route Description

Sky Ride Local in Southampton

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

The route is a flat generally traffic free ride, starting in the lively, yet relaxing city park of Bitterne. Enjoy watching the Sunday morning rowers, as you set out from Bitterne park triangle, along the cyclepath and through the greenery of the park. Head north, along the quiet roads at the edge of the path to reunite with the river Itchen riverbank, before heading into the urban edges of the city, and popping out near Southampton airport where you may hear the roar of jet engines as Holiday makers take to the skies. Soon you leave Southampton behind for the Lakeside country Park, where riders can stop for a cuppa and enjoy the scenes of the miniture railway. Continue on through Stoneham park, and Magpie Lane to the zenith of the ride at Flemming Park, where riders can enjoy the open spaces, while watching other sporting folk engage with their past time.
