Route Description

Sky Ride Local in Southampton

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

This 12 mile ride is calming and peaceful from start to end. Heading out from the Andrews Park Peace Fountain, the route uses the newly opened Sustrans traffic free boardwalk running alongside the picturesque River Itchen, through the award winning green flag Riverside Park, and then on to Itchen Valley country park. Following traffic-free paths and roads, the ride has plenty of interest along the way including the Peace Fountain, the Titanic Memorial, the Boardwalk, river wildlife, the park visitor centre and café. Here you can stop for a rest and a drink before making the return journey back to Southampton.

  • Andy Beckett Relatively new to cycling, I started in 2012 to get fit, and caught the cycling bug. I now cycle at every opportunity. Cycling did a great job of getting me fit. In 2014 I cycled from Lands End to John O'Groats, during the year cycling over 14,000 miles, and it all started with some 5 mile rides in August 2012
  • Peter French
  • James Probert I am a regular Sunday rider with a local cycling clubs in Southampton, and regularly lead club rides, both easy going and more challenging longer rides. I have been trained as a National Standards Instructor, and have been teaching Bikeability at many Hampshire schools. More recently I have been teaching adults one to one confidence boosting cycle lessons for Cycle Experience in Hampshire
