Why I became a British Cycling member

Sharon Stevenson and son Lucas

So you're thinking about getting out and about on your bike more often - great! But why should you consider joining British Cycling as well?

Sharon Stevenson from Greater Manchester is a busy mum of two boys aged 4 and 7. Sharon, 39, pictured above with son Lucas, recently bought Ride Membership and explains why:

'The boys really love their bikes and they've started going to Go-Ride sessions at their local club. They have a great time and I wanted to find a way to be able to share in something they love doing. I'm not up for racing around on bikes, but I thought "why not get into more easygoing cycling?"'

"I heard about the Breeze network for women, and loved the idea of the whole social side of cycling - just going on a bike ride with your friends, stopping for coffee and a chat... that's definitely more my kind of thing!"

And Sharon likes the fact that membership offers something for all kinds of cyclist: "I was quite surprised that British Cycling are doing so much for women and kids as well as professional cyclists and the 'lycra brigade'. The insurance cover they offer is really useful too. Insurance isn't sexy, but it's brilliant to know you or your kids are covered if you have an accident."

Ride membership costs £24. Benefits include up to £10m third party liability insurance, 10% off bikes and accessories at Halfords, and a weekly email packed full of tips on how and where to cycle safely. Find out more.
