All about Sky Ride

Sky Rides are big, fun events which take over a town or city centre so lots of cyclists of all ages and abilities can ride safely together on a traffic-free route. They’re a great day out for families, with loads to do both on and off a bike.

This year we’re bringing our big traffic-free bike rides to Plymouth, Bolton, Leeds, Southampton, NewcastleGateshead, Manchester, Sheffield, Hull, Leicester, Ipswich, Liverpool, York, Coventry, and Bradford.

Is it for me?

Sky Ride events are big traffic-free bike rides for people of all ages and abilities. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t ridden a bike for ages, or if your wheels have seen better days. It’s completely free to register and come along.

Each event has a designated route but there’s no official start point or start time, and you can ride as much or as little of the route as you like, and stop as many times as you want. We publish a route map for each event as soon as the details are confirmed, so check out the map for your event and see where you’d like to join.

Not been out on your bike for a while? This year Halfords are offering everyone who registers for a Sky Ride a free bike health check, worth £14.99. There will also be Halfords bike experts at the events on the day – but it’s much better to be ready to ride beforehand!

How do I join in?

Registering for the event is free, just takes a few moments and really helps us plan for the day and make sure everyone’s kept safe and sound.

If you’re bringing friends and family along with you on the day, you can register them all in one go – so there’s no need to register each person separately. Everyone who provides their contact details receives a handy email reminder from us about the arrangements for the event, including any last minute additions to the programme.

What shall I bring on the day?

Make sure you bring your bike (unless you’ve arranged some bike hire)! You might also think about bringing a helmet, a puncture repair kit and pump, a waterproof jacket (our rides go ahead rain or shine), some snacks and a drink. And it’s fine to bring kids’ bike trailers too.
