Checking your tyre pressure

This full day workshop is designed for the more frequent cyclist or ride leader to enhance their understanding and application of bike maintenance skills. There's no need to bring your own bike or tools and you'll have the choice of which bike to work with.


What the workshop covers:

What does it all mean?
Basic bike anatomy and safety check prior to every ride
How to take your wheels, saddle and chains on and off their bike with handy tips
Good basic position on the bike – indicators that a bike may be too long, short, big or small.

What happens up front?
Adjustment of saddles and handlebars (height and angle)
Headsets – all about headsets and adjustments during a ride.

Chains
When and why does a chain need changing?
Fixing, breaking and re-joining chains
Adjustments to chain length and tension
Tips on eliminating stiff links and lubricating chains.

What to carry on the move
Ideal tools to carry during a ride
What tools do specific jobs
Other useful things you should have in your kit bag.

‘The thing we all fear the most' – punctures
Changing an inner-tube with handy speedy tips
How to inflate and deflate tyres in the event of a puncture during a ride
Quick releases found on various bike set-ups.

Stop and Go – brakes and gears
Checking brake systems – cables and brake blocks
Changing, adjusting and setting up brake cables
Adjusting brake blocks and dealing with rotor brakes
Changing and adjusting gear cables with some speedy handy tips
Lubricating gear cables
Changing indexing of gears during a ride.

Spike Taylor of Pro Tool School

At the end of this full day workshop you’ll have all the necessary insight and knowledge needed to take your bike apart and put it back together again. Some prior knowledge of bike maintenance tools and techniques is recommended for this full day course.

What the workshop covers:

What does it all mean?
Tools for the job
What they are and what they do.

Transmission
Removal and refitting of chain, chainset, chain-rings, bottom bracket and cassette
How to use a torque wrench.

Wheels
Inside story of tyres, tubes and rim tapes
Spoke changing
Basic wheel truing.

Bike set-up
Just like the pros – bike set-up following a given rider specification.

Stop & go
Re-cabling both inner and outer cables
How to remove and re-fit shifters, mechs, stem, bars, forks and headset
Fitting grips and bar tape
Brake and gear set up.

Road- and trail-side repairs
How to tackle common mid-ride equipment failures.
