Facilities

Middlesbrough Cycle Circuit is a fantastic new cycling facility. The 1km enclosed circuit has a six metre wide tarmac surface, is fenced and lit, and has a small clubhouse and toilets. The circuit is available for recreational use or hire by groups and clubs.
Prissick Plaza BMX is a state of the art facility for skateboards, BMX bikes and inline skates.
The Middlesbrough Cycle Centre is the only secure town centre cycle parking facility in Middlesbrough, providing free, secure, indoor cycle parking along with showers, changing facilities, lockers and an information centre. If you’re a member you can leave your cycles safe and secure while you go to work or go shopping. You can also find out more about guided rides, cycling for health, cycle maintenance sessions and accredited road safety training.
Do It by Cycle is a great website for people in the Tees Valley, with oute descriptions as well as downloadable maps, upcoming events and much more.
Training

Accredited training in cycling skills is available to anyone over 16 through the Open College Network. For the younger rider, Middlesbrough Council provides free cycle training for school children in years five to seven, organised through the term-time curriculum.
National standards training including Bikeability is also provided by Middlesbrough Cycle Centre, a Middlesbrough Environment City project supported by the Northern Rock Foundation, Sport England and Middlesbrough Council. The Cycle Centre is based at Middlesbrough bus station and is only a five minute walk from the town centre.
Where to ride

There’s a wide range of routes in and around Middlesbrough which are ideal for all sorts of cycling.

Up-to-date electronic versions of Middlesbrough’s cycle routes are also available via Middlesbrough Council’s website.
National Cycle Network (NCN) 65 is a predominantly traffic-free cycle path linking Albert Park to south Middlesbrough and beyond to York and Hull.
National Cycle Network (NCN) 1 is a traffic-free riverside trail to Stockton.
Guisborough Forest is an area of Forestry Commission woodland, south of Middlesbrough that includes a number of popular mountain bike trails. The area can be accessed via a Forestry Commission Visitors Centre that has parking and toilet facilities.
Wynyard Country Park (formally the Castle Eden walkway) includes part of the National Cycle Network (largely traffic-free sections within the park) and other cycle paths and trails that can be easily accessed by bike from Middlesbrough, Stockton and County Durham. The visitor centre has a tea room and farm shop.
