Sky Ride Local in Middlesbrough

This rolling 31 mile route leaves Middlesbrough via Brass Castle Lane, heading into the countryside on virtually traffic free roads towards Newby, Seamer and Hutton Rudby.  The ride then heads East towards Faceby and skirts the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park winding its way towards Ingleby Greenhow and Battersby in the imposing but picturesque shadow of the Cleveland Hills.  After Battersby we turn back towards home through Great Ayton and Nunthorpe Village before arriving back at Middlesbrough Cycle Circuit.

You don’t have to be the next Bradley Wiggins, but you’ll need to know your way around a bike and be fairly fit to take part in our Challenging rides. If you’re comfortable riding with other people and fancy a fresh challenge, these rides are perfect for you. They start at around twenty miles long, and are paced at between 11 and 12 miles an hour.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Allyson Teasdale Allyson Teasdale Hi, my name is Allyson, i love riding my bike to help me to get fit, i also like meeting new people and have made lots of friends on these rides, it gives me something to look forward to and i really enjoy it, i like the fact that you can pick the level of ride that suits you, please come along to join us on these fun rides.
  • Nick Stebbing Strangely I am a keen cyclist but I'm not a racing whippet.
I would consider myself to be a social rider.
I enjoy the company of others & arriving at a cafe hungry but not too sweaty!
Most of my rides with friends have a cafe stop, some say I bike for cake.
I have previously organised rides for friends & family, most still speak to me so it can't have been too bad!!
I am a keen Mountain Biker & have organised C2C rides, rides for teenagers & taken part in Mountain Bike Orienteering events.
  • Kevin McConnell Kevin McConnell Hi I'm Kev. I have been cycling for a few years now but over the past couple have really caught the bug. I became a sky ride leader to share cycling with anyone that's willing to climb on a bike and enjoy themselves. Although I do enjoy challenging myself on a ride I believe the social aspects of cycling are equally important and it's a great way including all ages and abilities. I look forward to meeting people on sky rides and hope I can help you enjoy this great pastime.

Rider Comments on the Route

Compared to the last ride (Seaside). This is a really good ride and one I would probably do as a training ride (50 mile round trip from my house). No major climbs, nice and steady pace. Kind of agree with other views in relation to riders snatching at brakes, this did lead to one crash, but its a catch 22 situation I guess. You can't teach common sense. A safe distance is all it needs. Todays leaders did a great job on a good route.
  4. Arthur Thompson Sunday 14th August
Very good ride ,route good a lot on main roads which some dont like ,but what can you do ?,Steve says the pace was slow i clocked it at time up to 14 mph with the group close up. This is one of the best rides and with a little looking at ie getting off the main roads which can be done it should remain a good strong ride out .
