Thirty years ago Glyn Stead from Lancashire was a committed cyclist: "I used to ride to and from college and then to and from work most days," he says. Various distractions took him away from his bike, but now, with the encouragement of Stewart Kellett, British Cycling's Director of Recreation and Partnerships, Glyn has started cycling regularly again.
"I've been riding my bike locally in the Wyre area of Lancashire which takes in Poulton-Le-Fylde, Fleetwood, Garstang, and Thornton-Cleveleys. I've also ridden in the Preston, Leyland and Chorley areas, when attending various Sky Ride Local rides. In just the past few months I've worked up to doing 25 to 30 miles each Sunday."
Glyn became a member of British Cycling when he took part in our inaugural Introduction to Bike Maintenance workshop at the Manchester Velodrome in October 2010. He now receives loads of special offers on bikes and cycling accessories, and benefits from third party liability insurance in case he has an accident when he's out riding.
What are Glyn's top cycling tips? "Ride with a friend or with a group. It’s much more enjoyable than being on your own, and your fitness and stamina will improve without you even realising the amount of effort you've actually put in! Also, with safety in mind, always wear a helmet – your life could depend on it!"
