Sky Ride Manchester 2013 route revealed
The route for this year’s Sky Ride Manchester, taking place on Sunday 4 August, has been announced!
This year the free bike ride, hosted by Sky and British Cycling in partnership with Manchester City Council, will offer not just the opportunity to ride on traffic-free city streets, but a chance to experience four great cycling facilities.
Radio presenter and Sky Ride Ambassador Edith Bowman will officially start the ride at the National Cycling Centre, the home of British Cycling. Edith will join riders along the brand new six mile route, which will give riders the chance to experience four great cycling facilities – the National Cycling Centre’s indoor Velodrome and BMX Centre, the Philips Park mountain bike skills area, and Clayton Vale mountain bike trails.

There’ll be plenty of fun activities and entertainment at key activity points along the route, including a Team Sky area, a Wattbike Challenge, Go-Ride Skills for kids, and a cycling obstacle course. The National Cycling Centre will also be opening its doors to allow Sky Ride participants to ride in the Velodrome, the home of the Great Britain cycling team.
Rosa Battle, Manchester City Councillor, said: ‘More and more people are choosing cycling for both leisure and as a means of transport in Manchester. The more we can do to encourage people to cycle the better; helping to improve road congestion and ease traffic pollution. Events like this are not only a way of offering something new and exciting to existing cyclists, they also encourage novice cyclists to get on two wheels and enjoy the camaraderie of cycling in a large group on traffic free streets.’
