Training for success with Social Cycling Groups, Lycra Mike

Mike Brown is a man on a mission and with Social Cycling Groups he’s encouraging some local friends to tag along for the ride.

Mike (above, right) has been riding his bike on and off for the past 20 years. In 2006 an old friend convinced him to take part in a 300km bike ride in Sweden. It may have taken 13 hours, but since completing it Mike well and truly discovered his passion for cycling.

Since then Mike has been taking part in a few local sportives, and set himself a new ambition of completing a challenging 100 mile sportive in 2013. Realising the amount of training that would be needed, he set up a Social Cycling Group to encourage other local cyclists to join him on some training rides. ‘It’s more fun to ride your bike with others and I wanted to share my experiences with other like-minded cyclists nearby,’ said Mike.

The group are now going from strength to strength; riding together regularly and helping each other improve and meet their individual goals along the way. And as his training schedule kicks into high gear, Mike is right on track, thanks to his new cycling buddies.

Social Cycling Groups is a great way to meet new people to ride with in your local area, whether you’re training for a challenging sportive or just pootling around the park. Find out more and join today.
