Women and girls are making the team stronger
Published 11 July 2011
More and more people are joining the team and becoming British Cycling members. And a growing number are now women and girls.
We're delighted that the number of female members of British Cycling has grown by 65% since April 2009.
We know there's more to do. The ‘cycling gap’ is real – many more men than women currently enjoy cycling for fun. But as our membership profile shows, the picture is starting to change. As the National Governing Body for cycling we’re here to support and encourage you whether you ride for fun or to work or get involved in competitions. The Breeze network from British Cycling is helping to get thousands more women into informal bike riding. And at a junior level girls are joining in Go-Ride and Go-Ride Racing in record numbers.
Natalie Justice is the Breeze network manager here at British Cycling:
"It’s fantastic to welcome more and more women and girls as British Cycling members. All our members are actively helping to support all the work we do. Women are showing their support for the Breeze network, for Sky Ride and our commitment to help more women get involved in cycling at all levels. It’s great to see that our membership is more and more representative of everyone who rides a bike. This is great for the organisation, great for members and for the future of cycling in Britain."
British Cycling members make a difference. You’re helping us to get more people on bikes through Go-Ride for young people, the Breeze network for women, and Sky Ride for families. We’re working to keep cyclists safe, as well as governing the development of cycle sport in the UK – right up to elite level.
Membership is great for you and great for cycling.
Ride Membership is just £24 a year. Find out more about becoming a British Cycling member.
