Sky Ride Local in Manchester

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

A circular 15.5 mile route taking in the Trans Pennine Trail and Fallowfield Loop Line. The Trans Pennine Trail stretches across the country from Southport in the west to Hornsea in the east, and is a superb network of traffic-free paths and quiet roads. The Fallowfield Loop Line is a converted railway path in the south Manchester suburbs, acting like a ring road for urban cyclists. Discover two great routes in the heart of the city. Sections of the route are on compacted dirt and shale paths, which can get muddy in wet weather. Therefore road bikes are not recommended.  Please note it is essential that anybody arriving by car parks at the lower car park.

  • Jim Taylor Jim Taylor Hi,
I’m Jim Taylor and have been cycling for the past 14 years but 2012 is my first year as a Sky Ride Leader. Cycling has given me immense pleasure over the years and the opportunity to help other to also share that enjoyment is the reason I became a Sky Ride Leader.
For the past 12 months I have been a Volunteer Bike Leader for Wigan Leisure Services Active Living Team and aims to help people get back cycling. The rides are all off-road and are suitable for beginners and those who are a little more confident.
I am also a volunteer ranger for the cycling charity Sustrans. This entails promoting the work of Sustrans at various events and helping to maintain, sign and promote cycle routes on the National Cycle Network.
I look forward to riding with you all to provide plenty of enjoyment and fun on all the rides.
  • Darren Mercer Darren Mercer I have been cycling regularly for a number of years, I did normally cycle alone, but at last years (2012) Sky Ride Manchester, I realised what a great set up British Cycling & Sky Ride was. In the last 12 months I have joined up, and been out on my bike all weekend, midweek and even night rides with Sky riders alike. I would encourage anyone to get out on a bike and give it a try.
