Heading for the Hills!

Sunday 6th October at 10.00am This is what time the ride will set off. It’s best to get to the starting point at least 15 minutes beforehand to avoid missing the start.

Starting Point & Postcode
Markeaton Park main car park off Ashbourne Road (entrance opp. McDonalds) DE22 4NH
Overall Duration On a long ride, it’s sometimes good to have a little break in the middle, or maybe a catch up at the beginning or end to keep it sociable. This means that the overall ride duration may be longer than the actual cycling time.
3 hours 0 mins  (2 hours 0 mins cycling)
Bike Type You probably don’t want to drag your road bike across bumpy trails. Maybe you want to make the most of the suspension on your mountain bike. This helps you match your ride to your bike.

Sky Ride Local in Derby

You don’t have to be the next Bradley Wiggins, but you’ll need to know your way around a bike and be fairly fit to take part in our Challenging rides. If you’re comfortable riding with other people and fancy a fresh challenge, these rides are perfect for you. They start at around twenty miles long, and are paced at between 11 and 12 miles an hour.

This is a lovely coutryside route and is only a stones throw from Derby city centre. On the ride you'll cycle through country lanes and the roads of rural derbyshire towards Kedleston Hall and Windley, climbing high into the South Derbyshire hills, towards parts of 2012-2013 Tour of Britain route. After completing the long climb up to the Tiger Inn, Turnditch, we'll stop for some well earned rest and refreshments. The ride will then return to Derby via the Wirksworth Road approaching Duffield, over towards Little Eaton and via Allestree into Markeaton Park.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Amanda Reeve
  • Rob Cheeseman *Photo coming soon*

I'm a 34-year old former cycle commuter. I cycle less often nowadays, and just for fun. You won't find me clad in lyrca or talking in technical lingo. Cycling should be accessible to all, and that is my aim as a Ride Leader.
  • Damian Byrne Hello there I'm Damian

Born and lived in Derby all of my life, I remember being 4 years old and learning to ride, being scared as I shouted "Don't let go" to my mum as she ran behind me. 30 (ish) years later I was happy to be doing the running behind my youngest daughter.

Having been away from cycling for a number of years I decided in 2007 it was time to get fit, 5 (and a bit) bikes later it has become an addiction. Nothing beats jumping on a bike and riding the roads the tracks or the woods, living around Derby is the perfect place for all of these.

It's great being a ride leader and I'm looking forward to meeting lots of new people on the planned rides in and around Derby

    Go Sky Ride !!!!
