Ride the 1948 Olympic Road Race route

Sunday 1st September at 2.00pm This is what time the ride will set off. It’s best to get to the starting point at least 15 minutes beforehand to avoid missing the start.

Starting Point & Postcode
Blacknest Gate, Parkside of the gates Mill Lane SL5 0PT
Overall Duration On a long ride, it’s sometimes good to have a little break in the middle, or maybe a catch up at the beginning or end to keep it sociable. This means that the overall ride duration may be longer than the actual cycling time.
1 hours 45 mins  (1 hours 5 mins cycling)
Bike Type You probably don’t want to drag your road bike across bumpy trails. Maybe you want to make the most of the suspension on your mountain bike. This helps you match your ride to your bike.

Sky Ride Local in Windsor and Maidenhead

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

Come and ride the Road Race route that was used in 1948 London Olympics.  Back then Olympians raced around this 7 mile circuit 17 times, but don't worry we will only do 1 lap at a more sedate pace.

The majority of the route is on the traffic-free roads of Windsor Great Park and offers stunning scenery and magnificent views over Windsor and the castle.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Nick Rawling Nick Rawling Hi my name is Nick and I live in Slough.
In my youth I did Road Racing and held a 1st Category licence.
I have also been one of the few Brits privileged to have worked with Professional Cycle Racing teams on the Tour de France and the Giro d' Italia as well as some Six Day track events.
These days I only cycle for pleasure be it on the road or off road leaving the racing to viewing only on Eurosport.
I look forward to meeting you on up coming Sky Rides

  • Bob Franklin Bob Franklin Like most people I used to cycle as a youngster then work/family commitments got in the way.

But have now "rediscovered" cycling and the fun and sense of achievment that comes with it, and want to share my love of cycling with others.
