Sunday 13th October at 10.00am This is what time the ride will set off. It’s best to get to the starting point at least 15 minutes beforehand to avoid missing the start.

Starting Point & Postcode
Royal Commonwealth Pool (outside the front entrance), Dalkeith Road, EH16 5BB
Overall Duration On a long ride, it’s sometimes good to have a little break in the middle, or maybe a catch up at the beginning or end to keep it sociable. This means that the overall ride duration may be longer than the actual cycling time.
2 hours 25 mins  (1 hours 45 mins cycling)
Bike Type You probably don’t want to drag your road bike across bumpy trails. Maybe you want to make the most of the suspension on your mountain bike. This helps you match your ride to your bike.

Sky Ride Local in Edinburgh

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

This ride starts by following the line of the old Innocent railway before heading further east into the countryside between Edinburgh & Musselburgh. This ensures an almost flat and traffic free route making it suitable for all cyclists.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Bill McLaren Bill McLaren I'm the ride leader that proves you don't have to be super fit to enjoy cycling. In fact I got back on 2 wheels after having a heart attack in 2008 while out in the hills (Air/Sea rescue is not the best way to get a free helicopter ride).
Since then I've taken part in Skyride Local for a few years as well as doing a some charity rides and mainly just leave the car at home in favour of the bike whenever I can.
  • Kieran McGowan Hello, my names Kieran McGowan, as I was approaching the big 50 I realized I needed to do something to keep active, so thinking back to my youth I decided to return to cycling, something I always enjoyed and bought my first mountain bike, i ventured out on my own then realized company would be good, and enrolled for my first Skyride,i was soon hooked and realizing what i've missed the road bike came next, after 3 years participating with Skyride I though I would be good to give something back, so enrolled for the ride leaders course, i'm looking forward to meeting like minded people to share the great experience i've gained from other ride leaders, hope to see you all soon on your local Skyride.
