South Birmingham Lakes Tour

Sunday 25th August at 10.00am This is what time the ride will set off. It’s best to get to the starting point at least 15 minutes beforehand to avoid missing the start.

Starting Point & Postcode
Sainsbury's superstore (car park) 1059-1061 Alcester Road South B14 5TN
Overall Duration On a long ride, it’s sometimes good to have a little break in the middle, or maybe a catch up at the beginning or end to keep it sociable. This means that the overall ride duration may be longer than the actual cycling time.
2 hours 50 mins  (1 hours 50 mins cycling)
Bike Type You probably don’t want to drag your road bike across bumpy trails. Maybe you want to make the most of the suspension on your mountain bike. This helps you match your ride to your bike.

Sky Ride Local in Birmingham

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

A ride of 18 miles taking in the beautiful country lanes of South Birmingham culminating in a visit to the lovely Warwickshire village of Tanworth-in-Arden, with its picturesque houses and church...and the Bell Inn! Earlswood Lakes and Manor House tea rooms provides the opportunity to stop and look at the great views this ride has to offer. A tour of South Birmingham - well worth a look!

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • James Elliott Hi my name is James
I have been cycling for over 20 years, but it's only been in the last year that i have started to get more involved.
I am a member of Beacon Roads CC & have recently started racing on open roads and closed curcuits.
Through being a Sky Ride Leader I hope to increase your enjoyment of cycling & look forward to seeing you all on a local sky ride.
  • Trevor Ellis Trevor Ellis Hi. As one of your ride leaders, I am part of a team to make a safe and fun environment where we can all learn and share skills to become more confident cyclists.
I have been cycling a long time and became involved with SkyRides in 2010, as a rider, to regain fitness after a period of illness, and to learn new routes in the company of others. Some of the riders I met have gone on to take part in longer Charity Challenge events and Sportives. My personal goal was to ride Birmingham to Oxford for the Jennifer Trust, which was made easier by the miles put in on SkyRides.
This is my fourth year as a British Cycling trained Ride Leader, and I look forward to meeting you and sharing the experience of your booked ride.
  • Ken Foden Ken Foden I've cycled all my life but only taken it up 'seriously' in the last 5 years.

I'm a member of Beacon cycling club. I take part in spotives, audax's and in Aug 2011 I completed Land's End to John O'Groats, if you get the chance to do this you really must, fantastic experience.

I can't wait to get out there and meet you all, to have a laugh and joke and enjoy the cycling.
