Starting Point & Postcode
Hornchurch Stadium Car Park The Stadium, Bridge Avenue RM14 2LX
Overall Duration On a long ride, it’s sometimes good to have a little break in the middle, or maybe a catch up at the beginning or end to keep it sociable. This means that the overall ride duration may be longer than the actual cycling time.
2 hours 0 mins  (1 hours 20 mins cycling)
Bike Type You probably don’t want to drag your road bike across bumpy trails. Maybe you want to make the most of the suspension on your mountain bike. This helps you match your ride to your bike.

Sky Ride Local in Havering

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

Join us on this great ride starting at Hornchurch Stadium Car Park, the home of "The Urchins".  We take a short northerly on road ride to Upminster Windmill before joining the Ingrebourne Way riding from Upminster Park to Ingrebourne Hill, Hornchurch Country Park, Rainham and return.  There is so much to see and do on this ride you will want to keep coming back.

Hornchurch Country Park is on the former site of Hornchurch Airfield and we will be passing a concrete model of a spitfire and a few pill boxes from the Second World War.  The park is a haven for wildlife, cyclists, walkers and dog walkers.

At the southern of the ride we ride around Ingrebourne Hill, home of a specially made mountain bike track which people can come back to and enjoy at their leisure.  We turm round at Rainham clock tower, here you can also see 12th centrury Rainham Parish Church and 18th century Rainham Hall. We make a visit to the site of Rainham Wharf, dredged to bring shipping from the Thames before turning for home.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Richard Mills Richard Mills My second year as a Ride Leader so I can help others to get on two wheels and enjoy group rides.
  • Philip Woolford Philip Woolford This is my fifth year as a Skyride Leader. I have been a keen leisure cyclist since my daughters learnt to ride their first bikes. More recently I started commuting to work by bike and became interested in the world of competitive cycling, even volunteering as a marshall for the Tour de France. I became a Sky Ride Leader and route planner five years ago – ‘I like to add something different to my rides, a little shortcut or a piece of local history, so that all my participants have a thoroughly good time.’
  • Martin Elliot Hi my name is Martin. I have been cycling for over 35 years. As well as being a Sky Ride Leader I am also a Level 2 cycling coach.
